가톨릭 초등학교 식당에 아이들이 점심을 먹으려고 줄지어 있었다. 배식 테이블의 맨 앞 자리에 사과가 잔뜩 쌓여 있었다. 수녀님이쪽지를 하나 써서 사과 쟁반 위에 놓았다, "한 개씩만 가져가세요. 하느님께서 지켜보고 계신답니다."

행렬을 따라 배식 테이블의 맨 끝까지 이동해 가니 거기엔 초컬릿 칩 쿠키가무더기로 쌓여 있었다. 한 아이가 다른 아이에게 소곤거렸다, "먹고 싶은 만큼 다 집어가. 하느님은 사과를 지키고 계시니까."

God is watching

The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray, "Take only one. God is watching."

Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. One child whispered to another, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples."
