농부의 밭에서 한 꼬마가 빨갛게 익은 토마토들을 구경하고 있었다. "저 토마토를 2 센트에 사고 싶어요," 소년이 덩굴에 달린 예쁘고, 크고, 잘 익은 토마토 하나를 가리키며 말했다.

"안 돼," 농부가 말했다, "그런 토마토는 10 센트짜리란다."

꼬마가 조그맣고 덜 익은 토마토 하나를 가리켰다, "저건 2 센트에 파실래요?"

"그래," 농부가 대답했다, "그건 2 센트에 주마."

"좋아요," 꼬마는 흥정을 마치고 농부의 손에 동전을 건네주며 말했다, "일 주일쯤 후에 따 갈께요."

Tomatoes

A small boy was looking at the red ripe tomatoes growing in the farmer's garden. "I'll give you my two pennies for that tomato," said the boy pointing to a beautiful, large, ripe fruit hanging on the vine.

"No," said the farmer, "I get a dime for a tomato like that one."

The small boy pointed to a smaller green one, "Will you take two pennies for that one?"

"Yes," replied the farmer, "I'll give you that one for two cents."

"OK," said the lad, sealing the deal by putting the coins in the farmer's hand, "I'll pick it up in about a week."
