이제야세상의 이치를 터득하게 되었나니...

딜버트는 그의 "임금법칙"에서, "엔지니어와 과학자는 아무리 노력해도 결코 사업 경영자, 장사꾼, 회계사 및 특히 교양과목 전공자들 만큼 돈을 벌 수는 없다"고 갈파하였다. 이제 이 법칙은 다음 두 가지의 잘 알려진 기정사실들에 근거하여 수학적으로 증명할 수 있다:

기정사실 1: 지식(아는 것)이 힘이다.
기정사실 2: 시간은 돈이다.

엔지니어라면 누구나 아는 공식: 『 힘(工率) = 일 / 시간 』에,

「 지식 = 힘 」 및 「 시간 = 돈 」을 대입하면, 『 지식 = 일 / 돈 』이 된다.

이것을 돈에 관하여 정리하면: 『 돈 = 일 / 지식 』이라는 식을 얻는다.

고로, 지식이 영(0)에 접근하면 할수록, 일을 얼마나 하는가와는 상관 없이, 돈은 무한대(∞)에 접근하는 것이다.

Knowledge, Time, and Money

It all makes sense now...

Dilbert's "Salary Theorem" states that "Engineers and scientists can never earn as much as business executives, sales people, accountants and especially liberal arts majors." This theorem can now be supported by a mathematical equation based on the following two well known postulates:

Postulate 1: Knowledge is Power.
Postulate 2: Time is Money.

As every engineer knows: Power = Work / Time.

Since: Knowledge = Power,
then Knowledge = Work / Time,
and Time = Money,
then Knowledge = Work / Money.

Solving for Money, we get: Money = Work / Knowledge.

Thus, as Knowledge approaches zero, money approaches infinity, regardless of the amount of work done.
