한 일본인이 미국에 관광여행을 갔다. 마지막 날, 그는 택시 하나를 큰 소리로 부르더니 기사에게 공항으로 가자고 하였다. 가는 도중, 혼다 차 한 대가 택시를 추월해 갔다. 그러자 그가 흥분하여 차창 밖으로 몸을 내밀고 소리쳤다, "혼다, 무지 빠르군! 일본제야!"
잠시 후, 도요다 차 한 대가 택시를 빠르게 추월해 갔다. 일본인은 또 차창으로 몸을 내밀고 소리쳤다, "도요다, 엄청 빠르군! 역시 일제야!"

다음엔 미쯔비시 차가 택시를 추월하였다. 그 일본인은 세 번째로 차창 밖에 몸을 내밀고 소리쳤다, "미쯔비시, 되게 빠르군! 일본제란 말씀야!"

택시기사는 화가 좀 났지만, 잠자코 있었다. 그리고 꽤 여러 대의 차들이 추월할 때마다 똑같은 일이 반복되었다. 마침내 택시가 공항에 도착하였다. 요금이 300 달러 나왔다.

일본인이 외쳤다, "와... 지독하게 비싸네!"

그 즉시, 기사가 되받아 소리쳤다, "미터기, 엄청 빠르데요! 일제니까요!"

Made in Japan

There was a Japanese man who went to America for sightseeing. On the last day, he hailed a cab and told the driver to drive to the airport. During the journey, a Honda drove past the taxi. Thereupon, the man leaned out of the window excitedly and yelled, "Honda, very fast! Made in Japan!"
After a while, a Toyota sped past the taxi. Again, the Japanese man leaned out of the window and yelled, "Toyota, very fast! Made in Japan!"

And then a Mitsubishi sped past the taxi. For the third time, the Japanese leaned out of the window and yelled, "Mitsubishi, very fast! Made in Japan!"

The driver was a little angry, but he kept quiet. And this went on for quite a number of cars. Finally, the taxi came to the airport. The fare was US$300.

The Japanese exclaimed, "Wah... so expensive!"

There upon, the driver yelled back, "Meter, very fast! Made in Japan!"
