데니스는 아침에 늦잠 자는 문제가 있었는데 그 결과 그는 항상 지각 출근을 하였다. 그의 보스는 그에게 매우 역정을 내며, 그 문제에 대하여 무슨 조치를 취하지 않으면 해고해 버리겠노라고 으름장을 놓았다.

 

그래서 데니스는 병원에 갔는데, 의사는 알약 하나를 주면서 잠이 잘 들도록 밤에 먹으라고 말했다. 데니스는 매우 잘 잤고, 실로 알람소리가 그치기도 전에 일어났다. 느긋하게 아침을 먹고, 기분좋게 운전하여 출근하였는데, 그 보스가 문간에서 맞이하였다.

 

"보스님, 의사가 준 알약이 진짜 효과가 있더군요!"

 

"참 잘 됐군 그래," 보스가 노려보았다, "근데 자네 어제는 어디 갔었나?"

The Pill 
 
Dennis had a problem with getting up late in the morning and as a result, he was always late for work. His boss was getting very angry with him, and threatened to fire him if he didn't do something about the problem.

 

So Dennis went to his doctor, who gave him a pill and told him to take it at night to help him sleep. Dennis slept very well, and actually got up before his alarm went off. After enjoying a leisurely breakfast, he cheerfully drove to work, where his boss greeted him at the door.

 

"Boss, the pill the doctor gave me actually worked!"

 

"How nice for you," his boss glared, "but where were you yesterday?"
