어떤 사람이 자기의 변호사를 찾아가서 말했다, "이웃 사람이 내게 500 달러를 빚졌는데, 갚을 생각을 안 해요. 내가 어찌 하는게 좋을른지요?" 

"그 사람이 당신께 그 돈을 빚졌다는 물증이 있나요?" 변호사가 물었다. 

"아뇨," 그가 대답하였다. 

"좋아요, 그럼 그 사람에게 당신께 빚진 5,000 달러를 달라고 편지를 보내세요," 변호사가 말했다. 

"하지만 실은 500 달러밖에 안 되는걸요," 그가 대답했다. 

"바로 그거예요. 그 사람이 그렇게 답장을 할 테니까, 당신은 증거를 확보하게 되는 거죠."

Proof

A man went to his lawyer and told him, "My neighbor owes me $500 and he won’t pay up. What should I do?" 

"Do you have any proof he owes you the money?" asked the lawyer.

"Nope," replied the man. 

"OK, then write him a letter asking him for the $5,000 he owed you," said the lawyer. 

"But it's only $500," replied the man. 

"Precisely. That’s what he will reply and then you’ll have your proof!"
