플로리다의 한 요양소에서, 노인 여럿이 둘러앉아 자기들의 아픈 데와 쑤시는 데에 관한 이야기를 나누고 있었다.

"내 팔뚝은 너무 약해서 이 커피잔을 들기도 어렵다우," 하나가 말했다.

"이해가 돼요. 난 백내장이 심해서 내 커피를 볼 수도 없어요," 다른 이가 응수하였다.

"난 목의 관절염 때문에 고개를 돌리지도 못 해요," 세번째 노인이 말했다.

"난 혈압약을 먹고 있어서 늘 졸음이 와요," 다른 노인도 거들었다.

"그게 우리가 늙어가는 데에 대하여 치루는 대가이겠지요," 한 노인이 움츠리며 말했다.

그러자 잠시 침묵이 흘렀다.

"그래도 우리 모두 아직 자동차를 운전할 수 있으니신께 감사드릴일이지요," 한 할머니가 기쁜듯이 말했다.

Aches and Pains

At a nursing home in Florida, a group of senior citizens were sitting around talking about their aches and pains.

"My arms are so weak I can hardly lift this cup of coffee," said one.

"I know what you mean. My cataracts are so bad I can't even see my coffee," replied another.

"I can't turn my head because of the arthritis in my neck," said a third.

"My blood pressure pills make me dizzy," another contributed.

"I guess that's the price we pay for getting old," winced an old man.

Then there was a short moment of silence.

"Thank God we can all still drive," said one woman cheerfully.
