어떤 구직 인터뷰가 끝나갈 무렵, 인력관리 담당자가 MIT를 갓 졸업한 젊은 엔지니어에게 물었다, "그럼 초봉은 얼마 정도로 생각하고 계신지요?"

엔지니어가 말했다, "보험 복지 패키지 여하에 따라 다르겠지만, 대략 7만 5천 불 정도의 연봉이면 좋겠네요."

인력관리 담당자가 말했다, "저어, 5주 휴가에 14일간의 유급휴일, 완벽한 의료 및 치과보험에, 급여의 50%에 상당하는 퇴직적립금, 거기에 회사에서 2 년마다 새 차를 - 가령 빨강색 코르벳 스포츠카 같은 걸로 - 제공해 드린다면 어떠시겠습니까?"

엔지니어가 자세를 바로하며 말했다, "와우!!! 농담하시는 거예요?"

그러자 인력관리 담당자가 말했다, "물론이죠, ...하지만 시작은 댁이 하신걸요."

Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Person asked the young Engineer fresh out of MIT, "And what starting salary were you looking for?"

The Engineer said, "In the neighbourhood of $75,000 a year, depending on the benefit's package."

The HR Person said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5-weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years - say, a red Corvette?"

The Engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow!!! Are you kidding?"

And the HR Person said, "Certainly, ...but you started it."
