하느님은 천지를 창조하신데 이어 아담과 이브를 창조하셨다. 그리고 그들에게 하신 첫 말씀이, "--하지 말라"였다.
"뭘 하지 말라고요?" 아담이 대꾸했다.

"금단의 열매를 먹지 말라." 하느님 말씀.

"금단의 열매라니요? 우리에게 금지된 과일이 있다고요? 여봐, 이브... 우리가 먹으면 안되는 과일이 있대!"

"말도 안 돼요!"

"말 된다니까!"

"저 과일은 먹지 말아라!" 하느님의 말씀.

"왜요?"

"내가 너희를 만들었고 내가 그렇게 말했으니까!" 하느님은 이 말씀을 하시면서, 코끼리까지만 만들고 그만둘 걸... 하고 생각하셨다.

얼마 후 하느님께서는 그 자녀들이 사과 하나를 따먹는 걸 보시고 화가 나셨다. "내가 그 열매를 먹지 말라고 하지 않았느냐?"

"흥, 그런가요..." 아담의 대꾸.

"그런데 왜 먹었느냐?"

"글쎄요..." 이브의 대꾸.

"이브가 먼저 그랬어요!" 아담의 말.

"내가 안 그랬어요!"

"당신이 그랬어!"

"안 그랬다니까!!"

그 둘이 하는 짓이 역겨워, 하느님이 내리신 벌은 아담과 이브가 자신들의 자녀를 가지도록 조치하신 것이었다.

The forbidden fruit

After creating Heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve. And the first thing He said to them was: "Don't."
"Don't what?" Adam replied.

"Don't eat the forbidden fruit." God said.

"Forbidden fruit? We got forbidden fruit? Hey, Eve... We got Forbidden Fruit!"

"No way!"

"Yes WAY!"

"Don't eat that fruit!" said God.

"Why?"

"Because I'm your Creator and I said so!" said God, wondering why he hadn't stopped after making the elephants.

A few minutes later God saw the kids having an apple break and was angry. "Didn't I tell you not to eat that fruit?" God asked.

"Uh huh," Adam replied.

"Then why did you?"

"I dunno," Eve answered.

"She started it!" Adam said.

"Did Not!"

"DID so!"

"DID NOT!!"

Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and Eve should have children of their own.
