어느 국영 잡지사의 사진기자가 한 대형 산불의 촬영 임무를 부여 받았다.

현장의 연기가 너무 짙어 좋은 사진을 찍을 수 없었으므로 그는 본사에 비행기를 대절해 달라고 다급히 요청하였다.

"비행장에 가면 비행기가 기다리고 있을 거야!" 편집장이 확인해 주었다.

그가 부랴부랴 조그마한 시골 비행장에 도착하니 과연 비행기 한 대가 활주로 근처에서 시동을 걸어 놓고 있었다. 그는 촬영장비를 가지고 얼른 올라 타면서 소리쳤다, "출발! 출발합시다!" 조종사가 비행기를 바람 부는 쪽으로 빙그르르 돌리더니 금세 이륙하였다.

"화재 현장 북쪽편으로 넘어가서," 사진사가 말했다, "저공비행으로 현장 위를 서너 차례 지나가세요."

"왜요?" 조종사가 물었다.

"내가 사진을 찍을 거니까요! 난 사진기자예요, 그리고 사진기자란 사진을 찍는 거고요!" 사진사가 매우 화가나서 닥달하듯 말했다.

조종사는 한참 뜸을 들이다가 이윽고 말했다, "그럼 댁은 (비행훈련)교관님이 아니시란 말씀인가요?"

Forest Fire Photo Shoot

The photographer for a national magazine was assigned to get photos of a great forest fire.
Smoke at the scene was too thick to get any good shots, so he frantically called his home office to hire a plane.

"It will be waiting for you at the airport!" he was assured by his editor.

As soon as he got to the small, rural airport, sure enough, a plane was warming up near the runway. He jumped in with his equipment and yelled, "Let's go! Let's go!" The pilot swung the plane into the wind and soon they were in the air.

"Fly over the north side of the fire," said the photographer, "and make three or four low level passes."

"Why?" asked the pilot.

"Because I'm going to take pictures! I'm a photographer, and photographers take pictures!" said the photographer with great exasperation and impatience.

After a long pause the pilot said, "You mean you're not the instructor?"
