한 중년의 여자가 심장마비에 걸려 병원에 옮겨졌다. 수술대에 누워있는 동안 그녀는 빈사상태를 경험하였다. 그녀는 하느님을 뵙자, 마침내 올 것이 온 거냐고 여쭈었다. 하느님 가라사대, "아니다. 그대는 앞으로 43년 2개월 하고도 8일간이나 더 살 것이니라."

회복이 되자, 그녀는 병원에 더 머물면서, 얼굴 주름제거, 지방흡입, 유방확대, 뱃살제거 등의 수술을 받았다. 사람을 불러들여 머리칼 색깔까지도 바꾸었다. 그토록 오래 더 살게 되어 있으니, 그 삶을 최대한 즐기는 것이 좋겠다고 판단하였던 것이다.

그녀는 마지막 수술 후 병원을 나서서 행길을 건너다가, 병원을 향해 과속으로 달려오던 앰뷸런스에 치어 죽어 버렸다.

하느님 앞에 도착하자, 그녀가 따져 물었다, "하느님께서는 제가 40여 년이나 더 살 거라고 하셨잖아요?"

하느님께서 대답하셨다, "나는 그대가 누구인지 못 알아 봤었느니라."

A middle aged woman

A middle aged woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she had a near-death experience. Seeing God, she asked if this was it. God said, "No, you have another 43 years, 2 months and 8 days to live".

Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a facelift, liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, etc. She even had someone come in and change her hair color. Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she might as well make the most of it.

She got out of the hospital after the last operation, and while crossing the street was struck down by an ambulance speeding to the hospital.

Arriving in front of God, she demanded, "I thought you said I had another 40 years?"

God answered, "I didn't recognize you."
