신께서 구해주실 거야 (God Will Save Me)

자기 집 현관에 앉아서 내리는 비를 지켜보고 있는 한 노인이 있었다. 얼마 지나지 않아서 물이 현관을 넘쳐 집안으로 들어오고 있었다.  

노인이 그냥 거기 그대로 앉아 있는데 구명보트 한 대가 오더니 거기 타고 있던 사람들이 말햤다, "여기 계시면 안 돼요. 저희와 함께 가셔야 해요." 

노인이 대답하였다, "아니야, 신께서 날 구해 주실 거야." 그러자 보트는 그냥 떠나갔다. 얼마 후 물이 2 층까지 차오르자, 구명보트 한 척이 또 와서, 또 함께 가자고 하였다. 

노인이 또 대답하였다, "하느님께서 날 구원해 주실 텐데, 뭘." 그래서 그 보트도 떠나갔다. 

한 시간 후 물이 지붕까지 차오르자 세 번째 구명정이 다가와서 노인을 데려가려고 하였다. 

노인은 또 다시 "신이 구해 주실 거"라며 거절하였고, 보트는 다시 떠나 버렸다. 

곧바로, 노인이 익사하여 하늘나라에 가서는, 하느님을 뵙자 질문하였다, "왜 저를 구해주지 않으셨나요?" 

신께서 대답하시기를; "이런 바보 같으니! 나야 구해 주려고 했었지. 널 데리러 보트를 세 척이나 보냈었잖아!!"

God Will Save Me

There was an old man sitting on his porch watching the rain fall. Pretty soon the water was coming over the porch and into the house. 

The old man was still sitting there when a rescue boat came and the people on board said, "You can't stay here you have to come with us." 

The old man replied, "No, God will save me." So the boat left. A little while later the water was up to the second floor, and another rescue boat came, and again told the old man he had to come with them. 

The old man again replied, "God will save me." So the boat left him again. 

An hour later the water was up to the roof and a third rescue boat approached the old man, and tried to get him to come with them. 

Again the old man refused to leave stating that, "God will save him." So the boat left him again. 

Soon after, the man drowns and goes to heaven, and when he sees God he asks him, "Why didn't you save me?" 

God replied, "You dummy! I tried. I sent three boats after you!!"
