플로리다 주의 한 노인요양소에 어떤 노인그룹이 둘러앉아서 자기들의 아픔과 고통에 대하여 이야기하고 있었다.

"내 팔들은 너무 약해서 커피 잔을 들기도 어렵다우,"한 노인이말했다.

"무슨 말씀인지 알아요. 내 백내장은 너무 심해서 내 커피가 보이지도 않는다우," 다른노인이 대꾸하였다.

"나는 목에 관절염이 있어서 고개를 돌릴 수조차 없다우," 세번째 노인이 말했다.

"내 혈압약을 먹으면 현기증이 난다우," 또 한 노인이 끼어들었다.

"그게 다 나이 탓이겠지요," 한 노인이 탄식하였다.

그러자 잠시 침묵이 흘렀다.

"그래도 우린 아직 운전을 할 수 있으니 참 다행이지요," 한 할머니가 기운차게 말했다.

Aches and Pains

At a nursing home in Florida, a group of senior citizens were sitting around talking about their aches and pains.

"My arms are so weak I can hardly lift this cup of coffee," said one.

"I know what you mean. My cataracts are so bad I can't even see my coffee," replied another.

"I can't turn my head because of the arthritis in my neck," said a third.

"My blood pressure pills make me dizzy," another contributed.

"I guess that's the price we pay for getting old," winced an old man.

Then there was a short moment of silence.

"Thank God we can all still drive," said one woman cheerfully.
