설교문을 작성하는 일과 강론하는 일에 애로를 겪고 있는 젊은 신부가 있었다. 그는 주교님께 도움을 청했다.

 

지혜로운 노 주교가 말했다, "근데,시작은 뭐 좀 흥미를 끌만한 말로 운을 띠워서 청중의 주의를 집중시키는 게 좋을 거야. 가령, '어제 밤 저는 한 선량한 여인의 따듯한 포옹을 받았습니다' 라고 말하여 그들의 주의가 집중되면 다음은 그녀가 얼마나 다정하고 순응적이었는지에 대하여 이야기하고, 마지막에 가서 그녀가 어머니였노라고 드러낸단 말씀이야; 그렇게 하면 가족사랑에 관한 멋진 설교가 되지."

젊은 신부는 그 조언을 받아들이기로 맘먹었다. 다음 일요일 그는 설교단에 올라가서 말했다, "어제 밤 저는 한 뜨거운 여인의 팔에 안겨 있었습니다," 여기서 잠시 멈추었다.

신도들은 완전히 못박힌 듯 꼼짝 않고 있었다; 이제 물 샐 틈 없이 주의가 집중된 것이다.

 

그런데 그만 다음에 이어질 말을 잊어먹어 버렸다. 그래서 그는 그녀가 얼마나 멋졌고 자기를 기분 좋게 해 주었는지를 더듬더듬 말했다.

 

그러고 나서 그는 곤경에서 벗어날 방법을 생각해냈다. 결론으로 이렇게말했다, "저어...그녀가 누구였는지는 잘 기억이 안 나는데요,아무튼 주교님께서 권해 주신 여자였습니다!"

AYoung Priest

 

There was a young priest who was having trouble both writing and delivering his sermons. So he asked his Bishop for help.

 

The wise old Bishop said, "Well you might start with something to attract and hold their attention, such as, 'Last night I was in the warm embrace of a good woman,' that will get their attention then you go on to talk about how warm and accepting she was and at the end reveal she was your mother; that is great for sermons about family love."

 

The young priest decided to take the advice. The following Sunday he got into the pulpit and said, "Last night I was in the arms a hot woman," he paused. The congregation was totally transfixed; no lack of attention now.

 

But he had forgotten what come next, so he stumbled on about how great she was and how good she made him feel.

 

Then he thought of a way to get out of his problem. He said in conclusion, "Well I may not remember who she was, but she was recommended by the Bishop!"
