한 대학생이 친구들에게 자기의 새 아파트를 자랑스레 구경 시키면서 침실로 데리고 들어갔다.

"저 커다란 놋쇠 징과 망치는 무엇에 쓰는 거지?" 한 친구가 물었다.

"말하는 시계야," 주인이 대답하였다.

"어떻게 작동하는 거야?"

"잘 보라구," 주인이 말하더니 망치로 징을 귀가 찢어지도록 후려갈겼다.

난데없이 벽 뒤에서 누군가가 소리쳤다, "그만 둬, 이 바보야! 지금 새벽 두 시라고!"

Talking Clock

While proudly showing off his new apartment to friends, a college student led the way into the den.

"What is the big brass gong and hammer for?" one of his friends asked.

"That is the talking clock," the man replied.

"How's it work?" the friend asked.

"Watch", the man said then proceeded to give the gong an ear shattering pound with the hammer.

Suddenly someone screamed from the other side of the wall "KNOCK IT OFF, YOU IDIOT! It's two AM in the morning!
