한 텍사스 사나이가 아일랜드의 한 맥주집에 들어와 술꾼들을 향하여 헛기침을 하고는 말했다, "듣자하니, 당신네 아일랜드인들 술이 무척 쎄다고들 합디다만, 여기 아무라도 기네스 흑맥주 500cc짜리 10 잔을 연달아 마실 수 있는 사람이 있으면 내가 미화 500 불을 주겠소이다."

실내는 조용했고 아무도 그 제안을 받아주는 사람이 없었다. 한 손님은 그냥 나가 버릴 정도였다. 30 분 후, 아까 나갔던 바로 그 사람이 돌아와서 텍사스인의 어깨를 살짝 두드렸다.
"댁이 제안한 내기는 아직도 유효한 거요?" 아일랜드인이 물었다.

텍사스인이 그렇다고 하면서 바텐더에게 기네스맥주 10 잔을 일렬로 갖다 놓도록 주문하였다. 그러기가 무섭게 아일랜드인은 그 10 잔을 공략하여 연달아 모두 마셔버렸다.

텍사스인은 망연자실 앉아 있고, 다른 손님들은 환호성을 질렀다.

텍사스인이 그 아일랜드인에게 500 달러를 건네면서 말했다, "제 질문이 실례가 안 된다면, 안 계시던 30 분 동안 어디에 가셨더랬소?"

아일랜드인이 대답하였다, "오... 제가 그걸 해낼 수 있는지 먼저 시험을 해 봐야겠기에, 이 길 저 쪽의 다른 맥주집에 좀 다녀왔지요."

Real Drinker

A Texan walks into a pub in Ireland and clears his voice to the crowd of drinkers. He says, "I hear you Irish are a bunch
of hard drinkers. I'll give $500 American dollars to anybody in here who can drink 10 pints of Guinness back-to-back."

The room is quiet and no one takes up the Texan's offer. One man even leaves. Thirty minutes later the same gentleman who left shows back up and taps the Texan on the shoulder.
"Is your bet still good?" asks the Irishman.

The Texan says yes and asks the bartender to line up 10 pintsof Guinness. Immediately the Irishman tears into all 10 of the pint glasses drinking them all back-to-back.

The other pub patrons cheer as the Texan sits in amazement.
The Texan gives the Irishman the $500 and says, "If ya don't mind me askin', where did you go for that 30 minutes you were gone?"

The Irishman replies, "Oh...I had to go to the pub down the street to see if I could do it first."
