화장실 상념

지난 2주간, "옥좌" - 좌변기의 존칭 - 에 앉아 있으면 아무래도 뭔가 좀 꺼림칙해 보이는 게 있었다.

그래서 오늘 아침 자를 꺼내어 측정해 보았다. 두루마리 화장지 한 장 한 장은 정사각형이 아니었다! 재어보니 폭은 114mm 인데, 길이는 103mm 밖에 안 되었다. 제기랄, 이게 어떻게 된 거람? 화장지 포장 껍데기를 봤더니, 규격이 11.4 cm x 10.1 cm 라고 나와 있었다. 하지만, 누가 그런 걸 읽어본단 말인가? 나는 의례 그게 정사각형이겠거니 생각했었다. 참 한심해져만 가는 (자포자기적) 세상이다.

For the past couple weeks while sitting on "the throne", something has seemed not quite right.

So this morning I pull out a ruler and check. THE SHEETS OF TOILET PAPER ARE NOT SQUARE! My measurement shows that they are 114 mm wide, but only 103 mm long. What the heck is going on here? I check the package and it does say that the sheets are 11.4 cm x 10.1 cm, but who ever reads a package of toilet paper? I always just took it as a given that sheets of toilet paper were square. No wonder the world is going to hell in a handbasket.
