운전하며 물건 팔러 다니기에 지친 판매원이 한 두 시간 눈을 붙이려고 한 마을에 차를 세웠다. 그러나 공교롭게도, 그가 고른 조용한 장소가 하필 마을의 대부분 주민들이 매일 조깅하는 코스의 도로 중 하나였다. 그가 간신히 차를 대고 편히 쉬려고 할 때 조깅하던 사람 하나가 창을 두드리고 물었다, "죄송하지만, 지금 몇 시예요?"

판매원이 차 안의 시계를 보고 대답했다, "8시 15분요."

조깅족은 고맙다며 떠났다.

그가 다시 자리를 잡고 막 잠이 들려는데 또 창 두드리는 소리가 나고 조깅족 하나가 나타났다. "여보세요, 죄송합니다만, 지금 몇 시죠?"

"8시 25분요!"

조깅하던 사람은 고맙다며 떠났다. 그런데 이제 보니 다른 조깅족들이 지나가고 있어서 또 누군가가 수면방해를 하는 것은 시간문제일 것이 뻔했다. 그는 문제가 해결되기를 바라면서 펜과 종이를 꺼내어 표지판을 만들어 창에 붙였다. 왈, "저는 지금 몇 시인지 모릅니다!"

그가 다시 취침 자세를 잡고 마악 잠이 들려는데 또 창 두드리는 소리가 났다.

"여보세요, 여보세요? 지금 8시 45분이예요!"

Traveling Salesman

Exhausted from driving the traveling salesman stopped in this one town, and pulled over to get an hour or two of sleep. But, as luck would have it, the quiet place he chose happened to be one of the streets that the majority of the towns people used to take their daily run.

The salesman had barely pulled over, and gotten comfortable when a jogger was knocking on his window, asking, "Excuse me, but do you have the time?"

The man looked at the car clock and answered, "8:15."

The jogger said thanks and left.

The man settled back again, and was just dozing off when there was another knock on the window and another jogger.

"Excuse me, sir, do you have the time?"

"8:25!"

The jogger said thanks and left. But now the man could see other joggers passing by and he knew it was only a matter of time before another one would be disturbed him.

Hoping to solve his problem he took out a pen and paper and put a sign in his window saying, "I do not know the time!"

Again he settled back to sleep, and was just dozing off when there was another knock on the window.

"Sir, sir? It's 8:45!"
