캐나다의 한 거대하고 시설좋은 벌목 현장에 솜씨좋은 벌목인부를 하나 구한다는 광고가 났다.

 

바로 이튿날, 어떤 깡마르고 작달막한 사나이가 도끼를 들고 찾아와서 벌목대장 사무실을 노크하였다. 벌목대장은 그 왜소한 남자를 힐끗 보고는 그냥 가버리라고 말했다.

 

"제 솜씨를 보여드릴 기회를 한 번만 주어 보시지요," 그 갈비씨가 말했다.

 

"좋소, 저기 저 거대한 삼나무가 보이지요?" 대장이 말했다, "당신 도끼를 갖고 가서 그걸 쓰러뜨려 보시오."

 

갈비씨가 그 나무 쪽으로 가더니 5 분 후 돌아와서 대장 방문을 두드렸다. "그 나무를 자빠뜨렸는뎁쇼," 그가 말했다. 

 

대장이 자기 눈을 의심하며 말했다, "나무를 저렇게 찍어 넘어뜨리는 기술을 어디서 익히셨나요?"

 

"사하라숲에서요," 자그마한 사나이가 대답하였다.

 

"사하라사막 말씀인가요?" 대장이 말했다.

 

그 작은 사나이가 웃으며 대꾸하였다, "아 맞아요, 지금은 그렇게들 부르지요!"

Lumberjack Wanted 
 
A large, well established, Canadian lumber camp advertised that they were looking for a good lumberjack.

 

The very next day, a skinny little man showed up at the camp with his axe, and knocked on the head lumberjacks' door. The head lumberjack took one look at the little man and told him to leave.

 

"Just give me a chance to show you what I can do," said the skinny man.

 

"Okay, see that giant redwood over there?" said the head lumberjack. "Take your axe and go cut it down."

 

The skinny man headed for the tree, and in five minutes he was back knocking on the lumberjack's door. "I cut the tree down," said the man.

 

The head lumberjack couldn't believe his eyes and said, "Where did you get the skill to chop down trees like that?"

 

"In the Sahara Forest," replied the puny man.

 

"You mean the Sahara Desert," said the head lumberjack.

 

The little man laughed and answered back, "Oh sure, that's what they call it now!"
